DUANE EUBANKS

Duane Eubanks has performed everywhere from the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center and everywhere in between. His reputation and prowess as a gifted musician has taken him across Europe and into the arms and ears of discerning European audiences and all the way to Japan. Born into a family of considerable musical talent, his heritage possesses all the qualities one would expect of an accomplished Jazz dynasty which will tell an amazing story in years to come; his brothers are renowned trombonist Robin Eubanks, and guitarist Kevin Eubanks the former bandleader of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and his Uncle was celebrated pianist, the late Ray Bryant. A member of the two-time Grammy Award-Winning Dave Holland Big Band and a show-stopping solo performer in his own right, Duane talks to Jazzbites about being surrounded from an early age by gifted musicians, playing with luminaries such as Stanley Turrentine, Shirley Scott, and Charles Cole as a young man while studying for a business degree at college, eventually taking the plunge and moving to New York to become a professional musician in 1996, the importance of 'hanging out' with the legendary Spike Wilner at Small's Jazz Club in New York in those early days, catching the ear of French producer Aleardo. G. Buzzi and cutting his first solo album in 1999, and the privilege of working both with and alongside Jazz greats such as Bootsie Barnes, Jeff King, Bill McHenry, Elvin Jones, Curtis Fuller, and chart-topping icons The Temptations, and Alicia Keys.
