MARCO MARCONI

This week my guest on JazzBites is an accomplished classically-trained Jazz pianist and composer who grew up in the breathtaking region of Umbria in Italy, and decided to move permanently to the UK in 2012 to pursue his musical career. With a sound distinctive in concept and contemporary in style, he now leads a formidable Jazz Trio with an all Italian line-up, and has earned a reputation as a world class-act with appearances on the British Festival circuit, the renowned Umbria Jazz Festival, the Fazioli Concert Hall in Venice, and is a regular on the buzzing London Jazz Club scene. The Marco Marconi Trio's debut album NORDIK - recorded in Venice in 2013 - was a well-received collection of eclectic genius, and garnered rave reviews from the Jazz media which still resonate today. Marco speaks to JazzBites about his passion for writing music, his love affair with London, how a fun experiment with a Bee Gees song scored 10,000 hits on YouTube in 2-3 days, and his excitement surrounding the forthcoming release of his long-awaited new album.

"An exceptional talent." John Priestly, SIROCCO MUSIC

"An inspirational feast of stylish contemporary Jazz, this remarkable trio had the audience spellbound from the onset with Marco's original compositions interspersed with Jazz standards." Roy Stevens, STRATFORD JAZZ

"I think that everyone who heard Marco play was very impressed and overwhelmed by his dedication..."  Steve Symons, CHELTENHAM JAZZ FESTIVAL
