AMERICAN POET
The great American Poet and lyricist Stephen Kalinich has been a profound voice of the rock 'n' roll era for more than four decades. When Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson - two of the most prominent icons in rock history - recorded 'A Friend Like You' written by Kalinich & Wilson on an album featuring Eric Clapton and Elton John; it was a testament to the lyrical poet at the height of his artistic achievement. Other top musicians who have immortalized Kalinich's mesmerising lyrics are Randy Crawford, P.F. Sloan (Eve of Destruction), Mary Wilson and Diana Ross (Supremes), and Odyssey - the list is both long and impressive. Today we talk about his legacy in music for more than half a decade, the rock and pop royalty who hold him in awe, and the mystery surrounding the poem hanging on the wall in Sting's cottage.
