This week my guest on JazzBites was voted one of the top ten bassists of 2016 by the prestigious DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE readers' poll, and they didn't even let him know until a fellow musician congratulated him on his achievement during a chance meeting in the recording studio. An active musician in his native New York for over 20 years, he released his debut album <EVENT HORIZON> in 2015 to international acclaim receiving rave reviews from the Jazz media on both sides of the Atlantic; the album receiving widespread airplay and recognition throughout the United States and Europe. In recent years he's worked both with and alongside notable Jazz artists such as James Spaulding, Harry Whittaker, Peter McGuinness, and Peter Eldridge to name but a few, and on The Today Show with Stacey Kent. An experienced orchestral player, his appearances in concerts have taken him to The Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, earning him the reputation of a world class musician. Today on The JazzBites Show he talks about his musical career based in the most famous Jazz City in the world, why it took him twenty years to record his debut album, an insight into his personal creative process when writing music, and why he's trying so hard to get other deserving musicians an audience in some of the best concert venues in New York.
